Box spring removal in Albuquerque

A new foam mattress often means the old box spring has no job left. We take it on its own, or with the set.

A box spring is usually the awkward part of a bed. It is the same 60 by 80 inches as a queen mattress, about 9 inches deep (Amerisleep's size guide), and its wood frame does not flex at all. Where a mattress can give a little around a corner, a box spring has to clear it.

Box springs often get left over when a new bed arrives. All-foam mattresses are not designed for them, and adjustable bases cannot use them at all.

What this covers

  • Single box springs in every size
  • Split king and split California king sets
  • Low-profile bases and metal or wood foundations
  • Box springs stored in a garage or against a wall
  • Bases with torn dust covers or broken slats

What helps us quote it

Before you call, go look at the stairs. A rigid 80-inch base on a stair that turns is the job most likely to need extra time. Model building codes require landings of only about 36 inches, so a straight run is easy and a turn may mean standing the base up and walking it around.

If you have a king, check whether there are one or two pieces under the mattress. Split king bases come as two twin XL units, and two pieces are far easier to carry out than one.

Questions about box spring removal

Do I need to get rid of my box spring when I buy a new mattress?

Not always. It depends on the mattress type and its warranty. Our guide on keeping or replacing a box spring has a table for each mattress type.

Is a box spring harder to remove than a mattress?

On stairs, yes. It is lighter than most mattresses but it does not bend, so a turned staircase takes more care.

Will my garbage hauler take a box spring?

It depends where you live. The City of Albuquerque's large item page names mattresses and bed frames but does not mention box springs, so ask at 505-761-8138 (City FAQ). Towns around Albuquerque each have their own hauler, listed on our service area pages.

Can you take just the box spring and leave the mattress?

Yes. Tell us where the mattress should end up and the crew will set it back on the frame or slats if you want it left in place.

Still on the bed? Call us.

One call gets you a free estimate. If the City pickup would do the job for you, we will say so.
